Watercolor over India ink.
Signed and dated in upper right. On brownish paper. 28.7 x 28.7 cm (11.2 x 11.2 in), the full sheet.
The depicted person presumably is the poet Johannes R. Becher (1891-1958), a friend of Max Schwimmer.
• Max Schwimmer - the great expressive realist.
• This work shows striking similarity with Max Schwimmer's remarkable self portrait "Der Einarmige" from the same period of creation, which holds an international auction world recod up until today (source: www.artprice.com).
• In 1919 part of the exhibition at the 'Graphisches Kabinett von Bergh & Co' managed by the Düsseldorf physician and art collector Dr. Hans Koch.
• In 1946 he was appointed professor and director of the Department of Graphic Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig.
• From 1951 up until his death he was director of the Department of Graphic Art at the Berlin University of the Arts
