Signed and dated in lower right. Dated and titled by Hans Geissler (Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen) on the reverse. On off-white J. W. Zanders Germania laid paper (with the watermark), laid on wove paper. 37.2 x 45.6 cm (14.6 x 17.9 in), the full sheet. [CH].

• In those years Siddi and Erich Heckel spent most summers on the Flensburg Firth, where the couple had bought a small farmhouse right on the coast.
• Atmospheric landscape watercolor in partly strong and partly gently glazing colors.
• An expression of Heckel's love of his adopted home on the Baltic Sea and the tranquil surroundings with a vast horizon and a mild climate.
• The watercolor with the scorched corner was among the works Heckel was able to save after his studio got hit by a bomb on January 14, 1944.
