Schiefler L 288 and suppleent, vol. II, p. 496. Dube L 332. Gercken 802 1 (of 2). Signed and inscribed "Handdruck". Verso inscribed "Sanatorium. E L Kirchner. Litho/Friedenau Körnerstr. 45". One of two known copies of this print in black. On wove paper. 59.3 x 50.5 cm (23.3 x 19.8 in). Sheet: 64,4 x 54,3 cm (25,4 x 21,4 in).
This is one of the two copies mentioned by Gercken. [AM].
• This sheet is of utmost rarity.
• The drawing on which this lithograph is based was made during a stay at a sanitarium in 1916.
• Part of the donation of 250 sheets that Kirchner gave to the Kunstverein Jena in memory of his patron Botho Graef (Botho-Graef-Foundation)

PROVENANCE: Kunstverein Jena, Botho-Graef-Stiftung (1918-1937, obtained as donation from the artist, verso with two monogram stamps [Lugt 4337] and the stamp of the Kunstvereins Jena, recto also with the inventory number "182" of the Kunstvereins).
State-owned (1937-1940, "Entartete Kunst", number 13221).
Galerie Ferdinand Möller, Berlin (verso with the stamp, obtained from the above in an exchange in 1940).
