Selbstbildnis. Orig.-Radierung. Signiert, datiert und bezeichnet "Selbstporträt 17 No. II". 1917. Auf Bütten (mit Wasserzeichen "Original Hand Linen P & H"). 20,4 : 15,7 cm. Papierformat: 32,5 : 25 cm.
Sehr seltenes, nie veröffentlichtes und wohl unvollendet gebliebenes Selbstbildnis. Eines von bislang nur 3 bekannten Exemplaren.
Schon in jungen Jahren widmete sich Beckmann der Grafik - die erste Radierung schuf er 1901, die ebenfalls ein Selbstbildnis war. 1917, als die vorliegende Arbeit entstand, eröffnete J. B. Neumann in Berlin die erste Grafik-Ausstellung des Künstlers und wurde zu einem seiner wichtigsten Verleger.
- ZUSTAND: In guter Erhaltung. Stellenweise mit kleinen, bräunlichen Fleckchen sowie im weißen Rand leicht angeschmutzt und mit minimalen Griffspuren. In den Blattecken mit kleinen Resten einer alten Montierung, der rechte Blattrand unregelmäßig beschnitten. - PROVENIENZ: Privatsammlung Süddeutschland.

Orig. etching. Signed, dated and inscribed "Selbstporträt 17 No. II". On laid paper (with watermark "Original Hand Linen P & H"). - Very rare, never published and probably unfinished self-portrait. One of to date only three known copies. - In good condition. With faint isolated brownish spots and slightly soiled in the white margin and with traces that originate from the making. Both upper corners with minimal traces from a former mounting, right margin slightly irregularly trimmed. - Private collection Southern Germany.
