Eugenio Gignous studies at the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Brera, the Scuola dell'ornato and the Scuola di paesaggio under Luigi Riccardi in Milan from 1864-69. The painters of the Scapiagliatura, such as Daniele Ranzoni and Tranquillo Cremona have a strong influence on Gignous‘ style, who thus takes on a rather free painting technique. The Lako Maggiore becomes the new centre of his artistic creation as of 1879, whose surrounding landscapes are the main motif of his work. Gignous, along with Filippo Carcano, emerges as one of the leading masters of Lomnbard Naturalism in the 1880s. [RS]
