Winterlandschaft mit Schlittschuhläufern. Mid 19th century.
Oil on canvas.
Signed lower left. 59 : 88 cm (23,2 : 34,6 in). The self-taught artist Anton Doll, born in Munich in 1826 exhibits in the Munich Kunstverein from an early point on. His work, showing the influence of Heinrich Bürkel and Michael Neher, comprises numerous vedutas and watercolours with "Alt-Münchner" [“old-Munich“] city motifs, which are soon popular among art lovers and collectors.
The historic architecture, which the artist often depicts in a lyrical, mostly nocturnal atmosphere, counts among his favourite motifs. In addition, he paints the seasons of the year and summer and winter landscapes. His estate is on exhibition in the Munich Kunstverein after his death in 1887. [RS]

Discoloured and with isolated brown stains. Stretcher pushing through. With craquelé in places. With few tiny colour flakings. With an angled tear and small isolated piercings. Canvas padded on three spots, partly pushing through to recto. With isolated, partly larger retouchings.
