Contemp. calf on 6 bands. Folio. 9 ll., 366 pp., 3 ll.; 4 ll., 507 pp., 4 ll.

Rastatt 3.1. - Third edition of the famous work, "one of the first attempts to describe the earth and its structure from a physical perspective." (Kircher cat.) - "Le plus curieux des nombres ouvrages de ce savant." (Caillet). The work contains the first physical map of the world (Shirley plate 322). - Lacking the portrait, which is presumably not included in all editions. Tanned in places and somewhat stained, title with two old library stamps. Binding scraped, upper spine end slightly torn. All in all fine copy.
