Auf Befehl des röm. Hofs sollten die Anstössigkeiten ausgemerzt werden u. die Crusca .. sorgte für die Richtigkeit des Textes, daher sie zwar verstümmelt, aber zugleich sehr correct ist. Zum Grunde liegt d. Ausg. v. 1527 .. Beide Thle zusammen sind selten" (Ebert). - "Cette édition a éprouvé de nombreuses mutilations dans les passages qui pouvaient choquer les personnes pieuses; mais elle est d'ailleurs fort correcte" (Brunet I, 1001). - "Non ostante le mutilazioni a questa edizione, fatte secondo l'ordine del Sacro Concilio di Trento, essa è riputatissima. Il Borghini la indica come ottimo testo, il Cinonio, come testo fidelissimo, avendo avuto per iscorta il Codice Mannelli" (Gamba). - Gereinigtes Exemplar, stellenw. mit kl. sorgfältigen Restaurierungen (tlw. Buchstabenverlust, 1 S. stärker ausgewaschen mit deutlichem Textverlust). Rücken leicht verfärbt, Deckel etw. braunfleckig.

First edition of this revision by Giunta with abridgements. With 2 woodcut printer's devices on title, 2 small woodcut double portraits (rep.) and numerous large fig. woodcut initials and 1 woodcut printer's device at end. Turquoise morocco at 1900 (by Paul Kersten) with rich gilt decoration and edges and saffron yellow silk moiré endpapers. - Washed copy, here and there with careful restorations (partly loss of printed matter, 1 page stronger washed and with loss of printed matter). Spine slightly discolored, covers slightly brown stained.
