Keynes 3. - Krivatsy 5329. - Osler 2929. - Cf. Garrison/Morton 759 and PMM 127. - Third and most complete edition , just as rare as the first edition from 1628. Epochal work for the history of medicine, describes the discovery and the experimental proof of thr blood circulation. "Together with Vesalius's Fabrica (1543), Harvey's De motu cordis shares the honor as the greatest book in the history of medicine .. the cornerstone of modern physiology and medicine." (Garrison/M.) - "His work was one of the major triumphs of early modern science, and thus helped to generate the enthusiasm for science that came to dominate European intellectual life during the second half of the seventeenth century." (DSB VI, 151) - The first edition was still insufficient in many aspects: it contained a lomg list of errata and was printed on pulp, additionally, it lacked the alternatingly inserted counter arguments of Parisano and Primerose. The second edition, printed in Venice in 1635, was released with a shortened introduction and without chapters I and XVI, as well as without the two copper plates. This third edition, however, contains the complete text and the copper plates. - The two ll. Ad lectorem (bibliographic notes by the publisher) bound before last text ll. in wrong order. - Slightly browned in places or slightly foxed, few old marginalia, edge of one page with small blemish to vellum covering. All in all fine copy.
