PROVENANCE: Private collection Northern Germany.

The androgynous nudes of two girls in an anfractuous dance pose seem to be frozen like in a still. There is a certain erotic moment in this silent pause, that, in combination with the two dancers‘ extremely slim bodies, is about to break up the figural unity. However, despite all Klimsch’s sencerity of forms he did not follow any sentimentality. Even with the physical closeness of the entangled limbs, his two nudes still stay at distance and maintain an inner dignity, that makes a superficial erotic interpretation questionable. [KD].
