PROVENANCE: Private collection Northern Germany.

After World War II Ohm increasingly turned to painting. He was particularly interested in the depiction of colors and light, this aspect of artistic creation became more and more relevant towards the end of his life. "The focus in his works from the 50s [is] on landscape details, studies of nature and flower bouquets, fruit arrangements or details of a fir tree. In the compositions, which seem rigid at first sight, the aspect of motion breaks out stronger over the years.“ (Birgit Götting, Wilhelm Ohm 1905-1965. Das zeichnerische und malerische Werk, Munich 1994, p. 118). This is also the case with our painting, which can be regarded as the breaking point between the expressive works from the 50s and the "impressionistic decomposition of figuration“ (ibidem, p 129) in the 60s.
