Exlibris W. R. H. Jeudwine.

Mortimer 507 (mit Abb.). - Edit 16, CNCE 25807. - Adams T 951. - BM STC, Italian Books S. 681. - Gamba 1704.

Second edition of Trissino's proposal for orthographic reform and one of the most beautiful examples of 16th century Italian typographical craftmanship, made by the famous and influential type designer Ludovico degli Arrighi. Trissino was one of the central figures in the battle over linguistic reform, that took place in italy during the 1520s and 1530s. In these "Epistola" he proposes the introduction of new letters into alphabet to represent sounds in the Italian language which were undistinguished in the present alphabet. - With large woodcut printer's device on title. Mod. calf with blindtooled fillet borders. - Here and there minim. staining, title with tiny cut-off at upper corner. Else fine copy on strong paper with broad margins. Bookplate W. R. H. Jeudwine.
