Certainly it was the finest printed in France in its century, and the sixty-two full-page woodcuts, artistically presenting the anatomical subjects in special poses before unusual background settings, are unusually sumptuous and imaginative." (Heirs of Hippocrates) - Obwohl das Werk erst zwei Jahre nach Vesals Fabrica erschien, so war es im Manuskript schon 1539 weitgehend vollendet, und die Vorarbeiten gingen bis in den Anfang der 30er Jahre zurück. "Had the book appeared prior to 1543 as planned it would have eclipsed some of the innovation of Vesalius's Fabrica " (Garrison/M.). - Die Holzschnitte (tls. sign. und datiert 1530-32) werden u. a. G. B. Rosso, Jean Jollat und Woeiriot zugeschrieben. - Ohne S. 155/156 (inkl. ganzseit. Holzschn.). Stellenw. gering fleckig (überwieg. erste und letzte Bll.), im Kopfsteg tls. leicht wasserrandig, sonst überwieg. sauber; wenige Bll. mit geringen Randläsuren, stellenw. kl. Korrekturen und vereinz. Marginalien von einer zeitgenöss. Hand. Einbd. stärker beschabt und bestoßen, Rücken entfernt. Innen guterhaltenes und breitrandiges Exemplar . - Dieses Buch wird versteigert zugunsten der Stiftung "Helfer mit Herz Lippstadt e.V.", die soziale Projekte in Indien und Sri Lanka betreut.

With 61 (of 62) fullpage woodcuts, ca. 100 smaller woodcuts in text, woodcut printer's device and numerous criblé initials. Contemp. calf. - Lacking pp. 155/156 with fullpage woodcut. - Minor staining in places (mostly first and last leaves), upper margins partly slightly waterstained, else clean; few leaves with small marginal defects, partly tiny corrections and few marginalia by a contemp. hand. Binding stronger rubbed and bumped, spine removed. Inside good and broadmargined copy.
