"Dark brown thunderclouds gather from the depth in left, while those in right are still yellow-brown. In the distance the storm has already struck the dark trees, a rooftop and a large post mill in blackish colors. Further in front the rocky terrain with a large boulder in the corner is kept in light gray. A countrywoman coming from left tries hard to keep hold of two cows of which one is bucking." (Reinhold Behrens, in: Hans Georg Gmelin, Wilhelm Busch als Maler, Berlin 1980, p. 313)
