Untersuchung zur Mumienbergung und zur Entschlüsselung hieroglyphischer Inschriften, angeregt durch einen 1676 in Ägypten entdeckten Sarkophag.

Erste Ausgabe. - "Curieuses figures mystérieuses hors et dans le texte" (Caillet). "This work .. is filled with arcane curiosities. Kircher includes sections on Egyptian burial practices, metempsychosis, and reincarnation. He also appends his interpretations of hieroglyphs inscribed on various amulets and stellae" (Merrill). - Mit Abbildungen von Hieroglyphen, Mumien, einer Grabkammer, Pyramiden u. a.

Jhs. mit handschriftlichem Deckelschild. 37,5 : 25 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 5 gefalteten Kupfertafeln, 6 Textkupfern und zahlreichen Textholzschnitten. - KOLLATION: 8 Bll., 72 S., 3 Bll. - ZUSTAND: Gebräunt, letztes Textblatt gelöst, 1 Faltkupfer mit Quetschfalten und kl. Randeinrissen, 2 Faltkupfer mit minim. Falzeinriß, vord. Innendeckel mit längerem Eintrag von alter Hand. Einband berieben und bestoßen, Rücken beschabt. - PROVENIENZ: Ex bibliotheca Haeberliniana.

With 5 folding engr. plates, 6 text engravings and numerous text-woodcuts. 18th cent. card board. - Browned, last leaf detached, 1 plate with creases and small marginal tears, 2 folding plates with minim. tear in the folding, front pastedown with long entry by old hand. Binding rubbed and bumped, spine scraped.
