Die seltene Prachtausgabe der kolorierten Tafeln im Quartformat. An dem separat erschienenen Werk waren über 80 Zeichner und Stecher beteiligt, verantwortlich für die Vorlagen und die Kolorierung war F. N. Martinet, für die Ausführung E. L. Daubenton. Neben den annähernd 1000 einheimischen und exotischen Vogelarten werden auf 35 Tafeln auch Schmetterlinge, Käfer und andere Tierarten gezeigt.

EINBAND: Lose Tafeln in 3 neuen Halbmaroquin-Kassetten mit Rückenvergoldung. Blattgröße ca. 31,5 : 24,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 998 kolorierten Kupfertafeln (von 1008), teils eiweißgehöht. - ZUSTAND: Es fehlen 10 Tafeln: 61, 113, 144, 435, 514, 517, 519, 520, 570 und 729. - Tafel 136 mit kl. ergänztem Eckabriß. Äußerste Ränder tls. schmal gebräunt, sehr wenige Tafeln unbedeutend fleckig, ca. 4 Tafeln schwach gebräunt. Sehr gut erhaltenes, sauberes und ungebundenes Exemplar auf kräftigem, teils bläulichem Papier. - PROVENIENZ: Privatsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen.

"One of the most important of all bird books" (Sitwell). Nearly complete copy of the separately published colored plate edition in large quarto. With 998 (of 1008) colored copperplates partly heigthened with egg-white. Loose plates in 3 modern half morocco cases with gilt spines. Sheet size ca. 31,5 : 24,5 cm. - Lacking 10 plates. Plate 136 with small corner damage (mended). Outer margins of the sheets partly with slight browning, very few plates with neglegible stains, ca. 4 plates slightly browned. Fine and well-preserved unbound copy on strong and partly blueish paper. From a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
