Norbert Kricke
1922 - 1984
Flächenbahn. 1958.
Soldered Ironrods mounted on a tall rod atop a steel plinth, nickel-plated.
Signed on the base of the plinth and inscribed with a personal, barely legible dedication from 1965 (partially covered by a label). 27.5 x 58 cm (10.8 x 22.8 in). Plinth: 0,2 x 18,5 x 6 cm (0,07 x 7,2 x 2,3 in).
• In his legendary “Flächenbahnen,” Kricke brings the linear aesthetics of Informalism into the realm of spatiality.
• As early as 1961, Kricke’s groundbreaking oeuvre was honored with a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
• Timeless modern aesthetics: Kricke’s “spatial sculptures” resemble weightless, delicate beams of light extending into space, they are considered the pinnacle of his quest for the “unity of space and time”.
PROVENANCE: Lefebre Collection, New York (1965, gift from the artist)
Private collection, Germany.
Private Collection, North Rhine-Westphalia (2004, Lempertz).
