Not recorded in Diem. Signed lower right. 53,5 : 80,7 cm (21 : 31,7 in). Around 1900 Heinrich Zügel completely turned to pleinair-painting. He was able to unfold his impressionistically loosened painting in numerous works, which strongly differed from his narrative, structuralistic beginnings in its free colour application and the emphasis on light and its effects, due to a commission by the Hamburger Kunsthalle in the Lüneburg Heath. Masterly, he catches the changing moods of the rough heath landscape depicts the German heath's characteristic silhouettes in numerous variations. Our work is a convincing example for this free, accurate nature observations. [NB]
