Nathan Friedrich David Dietrich was born in Ziegenhain in 1800. Dietrich followed the tradition of his family and dedicated his life to botany. From 1828 Dietrich worked as an academic gardener for botany in Jena. He received his doctor's degree at the University of Jena in 1836. In the course of his life the scientist wrote various specific scripts on the flora in Germany. Dietrich died in Jena on 23 October 1888.
