Francesco de Guardi
1712 getauft in Venedig
1793 Venedig
Francesco Guardi was born as the son of the painter Domenico Guardi in the laguna city of Venice on 5 October 1712. Together with his brother Gianantonio Guardi the artist worked in their family's studio. Guardi painted historical and religious motives and was geared to the rococo style. In 1760 the picture titled "Il Canal Grande a San Geremia" was created which from a stylistic point of view still closely followed the works of his role model and teacher Giovanni Antonio Canaletto. Guardi's Lichtmalerei (light painting) was characterized by features of later impressionism, which he anticipated with this technique. Until the death of his brother Antonio in 1760 he worked in his family's studio. He died in Venice on 1 January, 1793.
