Ludwig Braunfels

1810 Frankfurt am Main
1885 Frankfurt

On 22 April 1810 Ludwig B. Braunfels was born in Frankfurt where he attended grammar school. Later he studied philology and philosophy in Heidelberg. After studying law, Braunfels settled in Frankfurt working as a lawyer. Alongside this job, he worked and became famous as a poet, translator (translation of the Nibelungenlied and various Spanish dramas) and author of various political articles for the Frankfurter Zeitung. His life work was supposed to be a critical edition of Don Quichote, but Braunfels was only able to finish a commented new translation. He died in Frankfurt on 25 September 1885.
