Pieter Saenredam (1597-1665) was born in Assendelft. In 1608 he moved with his mother to Haarlem. Pieter only painted interior and exterior views of churches and occasionally urban views dominated by a church. The paintings show an impressive conflict with architecture and perspective. The artist made a lot of trips and sometimes spent more time in one place to make precise sketches of the inside of a church. Pieter Saenredam died in Haarlem in 1665.
