Vogel und Trauben (29. Jahresblatt). 1959.
Woodcut.
Ebner/Gabelmann 1017 H. Dube h 431. Signed and dated. Inscribed "1960" in printing block. From an edition of 93 copies (according to E. Heckel's information on the wooden block). On laid paper. 18 x 13.6 cm (7 x 5.3 in). Sheet: 24,5 x 16,3 cm (9,6 x 6,4 in).
Since 1930 Erich Heckel sent his so-called annual sheets to a circle of friends, collectors and patrons. The motifs he used often reflect themes that the artist was occupied with atthat time. "Given the low number number and the striking motifs, it is little surprising that annual sheets became very popular collectibles." (Quoted from: H. Geissler, Die Jahresblätter, Hemmenhofen 2011, p. 45). [EH].
PROVENANCE: Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Würzburg (with the collector's stamp, Lugt 6032).
EXHIBITION: Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landesmuseum, Schloss Gottorf, Schleswig (permanent loan from the Hermann Gerlinger Collection, 1995-2001).
Kunstmuseum Moritzburg, Halle an der Saale (permanent loan from the Hermann Gerlinger Collection, 2001-2017).
Buchheim Museum, Bernried (permanent loan from the Hermann Gerlinger Collection, 2017-2022).
LITERATURE: Heinz Spielmann (ed.), Die Maler der Brücke. Sammlung Hermann Gerlinger, Stuttgart 1995, p. 355, SHG no. 581.
Hermann Gerlinger, Katja Schneider (eds.), Die Maler der Brücke. Inventory catalog Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Halle (Saale) 2005, p. 268, SHG no. 609.
