The battle scene painter Peter von Hess joined the General Staff of Prince Carl Philipp von Wrede in the German Campaign against Napoleon between 1813 and 1815. The scores of sketches made in those days were the basis for the paintings of battle scenes Hess made over the following years. [CB].
