"The major portion of this work on the organs of vision, speech, and hearing is devoted to the eye, and it is clear that Fabricius was one of the first to grasp the true form and proper location of the lens. Although his description of the ear is sound, it contributed no new knowledge about the ear or the sense of hearing. An extremely competent comparative anatomist, he was at his best in dealing with the laryngeal apparatus" (Heirs of Hippocrates 365).
Das Werk sollte zusammen mit seinen zahlreichen anderen anatomischen Studien eine monumentale, alle anatomischen Bereiche umfassende Reihe werden, betitelt Totius animalis fabricae theatrum, die jedoch nie veröffentlicht wurde.

(das erste weiß), 83 S.; 4 Bll., 38 S. - ZUSTAND: Mit einigen Wurmspuren (überwieg. im Bund- oder Randbereich) und stellenw. etw. gebräunt. Einbd. tls. mit Wurmspuren (unt. Rücken lädiert), Deckel geworfen.

First edition of the milestone on the anatomy of vision, speech and hearing. Forerunner of modern sensory physiology, with detailed anatomical illustrations. Inspired later scientists such as William Harvey, Fabrici's pupil. With engr. fig. title, 11 full-page engravings in text, some woodcut diagrams and woodcut printer's device. Contemp. vellum. - With some worming (mostly at gutter or marginal area) and partly some browning. Binding wormed in places, lower spine damaged, boards bowed.(R)
