Prachtvolles Ansichtenwerk des antiken Roms. Die schönen Aquatintatafeln tragen sämtlich die Datierungen der Erstausgabe von 1820; das Wasserzeichen ist mit 1851 datiert. Die Tafeln zeigen zumeist prominente Bauwerke der Stadt, darunter die Göttertempel von Vesta, Bacchus, Janus und Jupiter sowie Pantheon, Kolosseum, Forum Romanum, Trajansbogen, Konstantinsbogen u. a.
EINBAND: Karmesinroter geglätteter Halbmaroquinband ("Bound by Bayntun Riviere, Bath, England") mit breiten Lederecken, goldgeprägtem Rückentitel und Goldschnitt. 42 : 32,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 26 kolorierten Aquatinta-Tafeln. - ZUSTAND: Schönes, wohlerhaltenes und breitrandiges Exemplar in einem dekorativen, signierten englischen Handeinband. - PROVENIENZ: Aus der Sammlung W. A. Foyle, Beeleigh Abbey, mit dessen goldgeprägtem Leder-Exlibris im vorderen Innendeckel.
