Eines der bekanntesten botanischen Werke des 18. Jahrhunderts.
Das Blackwellsche Herbarium in der von Chr. J. Trew besorgten Neubearbeitung. "This edition is artistically superior to Blackwell's Curious Herbal on which it is only partly based. The first 500 plates by N. F. Eisenberger, were copied from Blackwell's plates but are much more carefully drawn, engraved and colored, and have alterations and additional material." (De Belder) - Nahezu vollständiges Exemplar, mit Ausnahme der zusätzlichen Kupfertafel 75bis im ersten Band.
EINBAND: Halbpergamentbände im Stil der Zeit, abweichend neu gebunden. 36,5 : 25,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 6 kolorierten und goldgehöhten Kupferzwischentiteln (5 wdh.) und insges. 615 kolor. Kupfertafeln (von 616) von N. F. Eisenberger. - ZUSTAND: Fehlt die Tafel 75 bis im 1. Band. Fleckig, ca. 15 Tafeln unten mit alt hinterl. Randeinriß, 2 Tafel mit längerem hinterl. Einriß bis in die Platte, 1 Tafel mit Eckabriß bis in die Platte (mit Bildverlust). Einbde. untersch. berieben, Rücken tlw. ausgebessert.

Half vellum in contemp. style, newly bound. - Stained, ca. 15 plates with small rebacked tear in bottom margin, 2 plates with longer tear (rebacked) into illustration, 1 plate with larger part torn off (loss of illustration). Bindings rubbed, spines partly repaired.
