Eines der frühesten englischsprachigen Werke über Opium. Frühe Abhandlung über Natur, Nutzen und Gefahren von Opium.
Exakter Nachdruck der Erstausgabe von 1700 mit dem Datum 1701 auf dem Titelblatt. Behandelt Themen wie Anbau, Zubereitung, Gebrauch und Mißbrauch, Rausch, Sucht und Entzug. In den 5 Kapiteln werden u. a. präzise alle Wirkungen erläutert, das schädliche Prinzip des Opiums aufgezeigt und wie man es ion seine Bestandteile auftrennt, wodurch es zu einem sicheren und wirksamen Allheilmittel wird. Zuletzt wird die lindernde und heilende Wirkung behandelt. "Includes the earliest English description of drug addiction, and withdrawal. Jones attempted to use wine as a partial substitute until withdrawal was complete" (Garrison/M.).
EINBAND: Halbleder um 1900 unter Verwendung der alten Deckelbezüge. 21,5 : 14 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 1 Falttabelle. - KOLLATION: 4 Bll., 371 S. - ZUSTAND: Ohne Lizensblatt, aber mit dem häufig fehlende Erratablatt (vorgebunden). Stellenw. leicht stockfl., Falttaf. mit hinterl. Einriß, Titel mit verblaßtem Stempel und unleserlichem Namenszug.
