Erster Jahrgang des bis 1799 erschienenen historisch-genealogischen Almanachs. Eine der ersten in Deutschland erschienenen Abhandlungen über die Amerikanische Revolution. "Wegen seines Inhaltes ist der erste Jahrgang als 'Amerika-Almanach' berühmt und begehrt. Eine Geschichte der Revolution von Nordamerika von Sprengel mit Kupfern Chodowieckis und mit einer Karte ist der gewichtigste Beitrag .." (Lanck./R.). Bemerkenswert auch wegen der Illustrationen von Daniel Chodowiecki, darunter eine der frühesten Abbildungen der neuen Flagge und Militäruniformen der jungen amerikanischen Union. Die zwölf Monatskupfer illustrieren historische Momente, darunter Boston Tea Party, die Schlacht von Bunker Hill, Franklin in Versailles, die "declaration of independence" im Kongreß 1776 u. a., ferner ein Kupfer mit Porträts von Washington, Franklin, Gates, Jones und Laurens. Die kolorierte Faltkarte der Vereinigten Staaten nach W. Faden zeigt auch die Stammesgebiete der Native Americans.
EINBAND: Hellbrauner Kalblederband mit floraler Rückenvergoldung und farbigem Rückenschild sowie goldgeprägter Deckelfilete. 11,5 : 9 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit Kupfertitel, 18 Kupfertafeln (3 kolor.) von D. Chodowiecki und 1 mehrfach gefalteten kolorierten Kupferkarte. - KOLLATION: 4 Bll., 182 S., 1 w. Blatt. - ZUSTAND: Rücken gering verfärbt, ansonsten sauberes und gut erhaltenes Exemplar des Taschenalmanachs. - PROVENIENZ: Exlibris Alexander von Seckendorff (1737-1814) und Stempel der Seckendorffschen "Bibliothek Sugenheim". - Norddeutsche Privatsammlung.

First year of the almanac, containing an account of the American Revolution and therefore also called "Amerika-Almanach". Illustrated with engr. title, 18 engr. plates (3 col.) by D. Chodowiecki and 1 folding engr. map with surface color. The illustrations include the earliest images of the new United States flag and the new military uniforms as well as important events like the Boston Tea Party, battle of Bunker Hill, Franklin in Versailles, the declaration of independene in Congress 1776 and portraits of Washington, Franklin, Jones, Gates and Laurens. Contemp. calf with rich floral gilt decoration and label on spine and gilt fillet on boards. - Spine only slightly discolored, otherwise clean and well-preserved copy. - From the library of the Family Von Seckendorff, with bookplate of Alexander von Seckendoff (1737-1814) and stamp "Bibliothek Sugenheim". - Northern German private collection.
