Wunderschöne Sammlung von großformatigen Kupferstichen überwiegend von dem französischen Maler und Kupferstecher Israel Silvestre (1621-1691), zusammengestellt aus den Bänden IV, XIII und XIV des Cabinet du Roi . Das berühmte, auf dem königlichen Kupferstichkabinett beruhende Tafelwerk wurde auf Veranlassung von Louis XIV. zur Förderung und Bewahrung des Kupferstichs veröffentlicht. 1667 offiziell von Louis's XIV. Minister Colbert in Angriff genommen, umfaßte das monumentale Werk bei seiner Neuauflage 1727 23 Bände, wovon jedoch so gut wie keine vollständige Reihe zu finden ist.
Gezeigt sind Pläne, Aufrisse und Ansichten der königlichen Gebäude Frankreichs, darunter Louvre, Palais und Jardin de Tuileries, Palais Royal, College des Quatre Nations, Arc de Triomphe du Louis XIV., die Schlösser von Vincennes, Madrid, St. Germain-en-Laye, Fontainebleau, Monceaux, Blois, Compiègne und Jametz sowie die befestigten Grenzstädten Metz, Verdun, Sedan, Momédy, Stenay und Marsal. Die Tafeln datiert 1666 bis 1682 (die blattgroße Kupfertafel Representation de la statue de sa majesté von Le Poutre, datiert 1699, ist zusätzlich eingebunden aus Les plans, profils, et élévations des villes et château de Versailles, 1716).

EINBAND: Lederband im Stil des 18. Jahrhunderts mit Rückenschild. 51,5 : 38 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 45 Ansichten und Plänen auf 50 Kupertafeln (7 gefaltet, 4 mit schmal eingefaltetem Rand) von I. Silvestre, J. Marot, Dorbay, Le Clerc, Brissot u. a., sowie mit 1 zusätzlichen Kupfertafel. - ZUSTAND: Nur wenig fleckig, die gefalteten Tafeln und 1 doppelblattgr. Tafel an den Seitenrändern bis an die Plattenkante beschnitten, das mehrfach gefaltete Panorama von Metz gering angeschmutzt und mit geglätteten Knickspuren. Insgesamt gut erhaltenes und sauberes Exemplar mit breitrandigen Kupfertafeln auf kräftigem Papier. - PROVENIENZ: Skandinavische Privatsammlung.

Magnificent collection of plates from "Cabinet du Roi", compiled from vols. IV, XIII and XIV. With 45 views and plans on 50 engr. plates (7 folding, 4 plates with folded margins), mostly by Israel Silvestre, plus 1 additional plate. Half calf in 18th cent. style with label on spine. - Only very slightly stained, the side margins of the folding plates trimmed to platemark, the folding panorama of Metz only slightly soiled and with smoothed creases. Overall well preserved and clean copy with excellent wide-margined prints on strong paper.(R)
