Der berühmte expressionistische Almanach in der ersten Ausgabe, erschienen in 1200 Exemplaren. - "Die Herausgeber Marc und Kandinsky verstanden den Almanach als das Sprachrohr der 'Epoche des Großen Geistigen' wie es im Vorwort von 1911 hieß. Gegen die Zeit der materiellen Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts wollte man die Kunst des Geistigen setzen." (J. Lammers, im Katalog Vom Jugendstil zum Bauhaus) "The philosophy behind this almanac is one of the most important concepts of the twentieth century art scene" (Reed). - Mit dem berühmten Einbandholzschnitt von W. Kandinsky im dritten Zustand in den Farben Blau, Rot und Schwarz für die in Leinen gebundenen Exemplare der Erstausgabe.
EINBAND: Orig.-Leinenband mit Deckelholzschnitt in Blau, Rot und Schwarz. 29,5 : 22,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 4 handkolorierten Tafeln (2 montiert) und zahlreichen Abbildungen sowie 3 Musikbeilagen. - ZUSTAND: Vereinzelt im Fußschnitt minimalste Randläsuren. Rücken leicht angeschmutzt. Insgesamt sehr schönes, sauberes Exemplar. - PROVENIENZ: Exemplar aus der Bibliothek des Hamburger Raumkünstlers Peter Gustaf Dorén (1857-1942), dem 2021 eine Ausstellung im Hamburger Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe gewidmet war. Zuletzt in einer bayrischen Privatsammlung.

First edition of the acclaimed expressionist almanach which was published in a print run of 1200 copies. - Orig. cloth with woodcut on cover in blue, red and black. With 4 hand-colored plates (2 mounted) and many illustrations and 3 music additions. Minimal edge damage in a few places at the bottom. Spine slightly soiled. Overall, a very nice, clean copy. - Copy from the library of Hamburg interior decorator Peter Gustaf Dorén (1857-1942), to whom an exhibition at the Hamburg Museum of Arts and Crafts was dedicated in 2021. Most recently in a Bavarian private collection.
