1 von 500 numerierten Exemplaren. - Kirchner hatte sich längere Zeit intensiv mit den Gedichten Georg Heyms beschäftigt. Die gesamte Buchausstattung entstand genau nach seinen Entwürfen und Angaben. "Bewegte, vielfigurige Darstellungen, die das Zerspringen der Welt in Chaos zeigen, kaum umrissene Gebilde, Gebäude und Gestalten, Tod, Mord und Verwüstungen, verwirrende Bilder, die fast in Schwarz verschwinden, zeugen von Kirchners intensiver Auseinandersetzung mit den Gedichten" (Papiergesänge). - "The color woodcut cover is one of the most memorable of any twentieth-century artist's book" (Robert F. Johnson für die Logan Collection).
EINBAND: Farbig illustrierter Orig.-Leinenband in Grün, Gelb und Schwarz, in schwarzem Pappschuber. 23,5 : 16,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 49 Orig.-Holzschnitten (1 auf dem Einband) von Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. - ZUSTAND: Hint. Vorsatz mit Besitzstempel. Insgesamt schönes, sauberes und farbfrisches Exemplar. - PROVENIENZ: Westfälische Privatsammlung.
