Paul Gauguin
1848 - 1903

Selbstbildnis, Oviri (der Wilde). 1894/95.
Bronze relief with brown patina.
With cast monogram and title. Probably from an edition of 4 copies. 35.5 x 34.7 cm (13.9 x 13.6 in).
As Gray explains, nothing is known about the foundry (foundry mark ADA in ligature) or the edition of the documented bronze reliefs, which were probably made after the former plaster model. One of these reliefs was apparently first exhibited at the Galerie Thannhauser in Berlin in 1928. Andréani mentions an edition of four copies.
This cast was probably made posthumously.

• Self-portrait of the important pioneer of Modernism.
• Another copy of this bronze relief is at the Folkwang Museum in Essen
.
