Karl Hartung
1908 - 1967
Nereide (Meeresnymphe). 1946/1948.
Bronze with a dark, anthracite-colored shimmering patina.
One of only two lifetime casts from a limited edition of 6+1 copies. With the artist's name on one of the stands. Ca. 18.5 x 44 x 17 cm (7.2 x 17.3 x 6.6 in).
The terracotta version is lost. [CH].
• One of only two lifetime casts of this bronze (the second, however, is a different version, bronze, polished).
• Progressive style and radically modern aesthetics.
• Beautiful visualization of Karl Hartung's artistic work at the time, between figuration and abstraction.
• One copy of this bronze was part of the comprehensive retrospective at the Haus am Waldsee in Berlin in 1952.
• This bronze is offered on the international auction market for the first time (source: artprice.com).
We are grateful to the Karl Hartung Estate for the kind expert advice.
