Verso with the estate stamp of the Kunstmuseum Basel (Lugt 1570 b) and the handwritten registration number “K Dre / Bg 33”. On light off-white cardboard. 34.5 x 42.8 cm (13.5 x 16.8 in), almost the full sheet.
Verso with a black chalk drawing “ Liegendes Mädchen in langem Kleid mit Kette, Fränzi”, the full sheet. Kirchner’s favorite model at this time was Lina Franziska Fehrmann, known as Fränzi. [CH].
• Intimate drawing made in the artist's Dresden studio.
• During these years, the Dresden studio was not only the living and working space of the “Brücke” artists, but also a meeting place for female amateur models.
• Kirchner skillfully captured the semi-nude in a reduced formal language.
• Sheet painted on both sides: E. L. Kirchner's most important models in Dresden—Fränzi and Dodo—united on one sheet.
This work is documented in the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Archive, Wichtrach/Bern.
