An Baronin Gérard, Ehefrau des Porträtmalers François Gérard und einflußreiche Gastgeberin der Pariser Gesellschaft um 1820.
Rossini hatte Mühe, ein Treffen zwischen ihr und der Comtesse de Sparre herbeizuführen; die Comtesse zögert, da sie der Baronin noch nicht persönlich begegnet ist. Da er sie aber nun überzeugt hat, bittet er die Baronin, den ersten Schritt zu machen, und das vorliegenden Schreiben als Beleg mitzubringen. "Con stento ho deciso la Contessa Spart [= Sparre] che non avendo il piacere di conoscervi. Non era decisa, ma adesso che ci adeto parole vi prego andare da lei la prima. Tenendo questa alla vostra cara visita." Bei der Comtesse de Sparre handelt es sich vermutlich um Caroline Naldi (1801-1876), ab 1823 verheiratet mit Baron Sparre, und eine begabte Amateursängerin in den Pariser Salons der Zeit.
- ZUSTAND: Die linke Hälfte des Doppelblattes unterhalb der Adresse zu einem Drittel unvollständig. - PROVENIENZ: Aus einer bedeutenden französischen Privatsammlung.
Letter to Baronesse Gérard (wife of famous painter Francois Gérard and influencial host of salons in Paris around 1820-1830), about having finally arranged a meeting between her and a reluctant Comtesse de Sparre, and therefore asking her to take the first step, taking his note with her as an introduction. Autograph letter signed (in Italian). 1 p. On double leaf, with address on verso. 20 : 13 cm. - Left half of double leaf torn away by onethird (below the address). Significant French private collection.
