An seinen langjährigen Freund und Briefpartner, den Bildhauer Vincenzo Luccardi (1811-1876) in Rom.
Über eine unerwartete berufliche Reise. Obwohl Verdi sich inzwischen mindestens so sehr als Gutsbesitzer auf Sant'Agata wie als Komponist sah, hatte er sich von seinem Pariser Verleger Léon Escudier (1821-1881) überreden lassen, nach Paris zu reisen. ".. il tempo in cui dovrò far fagotto e partire .. Non dir niente a nessuno, ma probabilmente andrò a Parigi. Fui qui Escudier e mi sono lasciato un po'imborgliare. Zitto dunque ed Amen.." 1865 bekam Verdi einen Auftrag der Pariser Oper für das neue Stück Don Carlos , die Oper wurde 1867 uraufgeführt. - Erwähnt ferner die Cholera-Epedemie, die im Spätsommer 1865 weite Teile Südeuropas betraf. ".. E cosa tu fai? Avete paura del cholera?".
- ZUSTAND: Im oberen Rand mit Rostspur einer Büroklammer und zwei Schnittspuren im oberen Drittel des Blattes, die horizontale Falzung durchtrennt und sorgfältig mit Japan restauriert.

Autograph letter signed. 2 pp. 21,5 : 13,5 cm. - Upper margin with rust stain by an old paperclip, and with two small cuts in the upper third of the sheet, horizontal centrefold cut through and skilfully repaired with Japan paper.
