Signed and dated in the wet paint in the lower right corner. Signed on the stretcher (partially covered by labels) as well as signed and stamped with the handwritten stamp “WB no. 637” on a label. 65 x 54 cm (25.5 x 21.2 in).
• Formerly part of the Dr. Helmut Beck Collection, Stuttgart.
• From the significant series of “Eidos” paintings.
• Though ostracized by the Nazis, Baumeister continued on his path with unwavering determination and is today regarded as one of the most important artists of the modern era.
• Most recently, the Museum Folkwang in Essen honored the artist with the exhibition “Willi Baumeister – Zeitzeichen” (February 23 to June 16, 2024).
PROVENANCE: Private collection of Dr. Beck, Stuttgart (acquired directly from the artist ca. 1945–1948; sold at Sotheby’s in 2002).
