Our painting "Ile d'Ouessant - Port d'Harant" from 1927 shows a nocturnal seascape. Jawlensky stages the rocky bay on the small Breton island Ouessant in the Atlantic Ocean, separated from the harbor by a black wall, like an arcane and dreamlike parallel world. Strong colors that have the mystical radiance of medieval church windows and dark landing stages form brilliant color fields, making the composition a fairy tale with an exotic and beautiful notion. The colorful rock formations, the green and blue arches of the gently breaking waves and the woman resting under the moon and the stars like a mysterious being from the sea create a work with a very special magical appeal.
