The trained graphic artist Anton Stankowski was active for the renowned studio of Max Dalang in Zürich between 1929 and 1934. He was friends with creative minds such as Richard Paul Lohse, Heiri Steiner, Hans Neuburg, Coray, Fischliand Max Bill. A new circle of artist friends formed around Stankowski who opened his own graphic studio in 1951. Among them were people like Willi Baumeister, Max Bense, Egon Eiermann, Mia Seeger and Walter Cantz. As of the mid 1970s Stankowski increasingsly turned to visual arts, creating constructive-concrete paintings and objects. The works he produced as painter and sculptor reflect the experience he had gained as graphic designer, they are characterized by his graphic-linear approach. Stankowski's concrete creations have clear parallels to the stylistic tendencies of contemporaries like Max Bill, Richard Paul Loose or Günter Fruhtrunk, owed to their fragmented color fields they range between Concrete- and Op-Art.
