EXHIBITION: Aquarelle und Zeichnungen von Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Galerie Vömel Düsseldorf 20 August - late September 1973, cat. no. 38 (no ill.).
Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Aquarelle, Brinke & Riemenschneider Hamburg, 30 September - 11 November 1970, illu. on p. 8.

As he was already in his eighties, Schmidt-Rottluff had to give up oil painting for health reasons in the mid 1960s, instead he began to focus on small watercolors and ink brush drawings, which led to ever new perspectives of motif, form and color in his later period. These mature creations compensate the acclaimed artist‘ sentire wealth of expression. His oeuvre, including the works on paper, covers a period of almost 70 years and is of groundbreaking relevance for the dawn of Modernism. [EH]
