Vorzugsausgabe auf Japan, angereichert mit Originalzeichnungen von Jean-Louis Forain. In einem signierten Handeinband von René Kieffer.

1 von 50 numerierten Exemplaren der Vorzugsausgabe auf Japan, mit einer Suite sämtlicher Illustrationen auf China. Das erste von Forain illustrierte Buch. "A rapid line evokes the life of these puppets of Paris, each simplified to represent a type. The printing of this book was begun in 1914, interrupted by the war, and taken up again in 1919. Although the plates are reproductive, they were hand printed by the master craftsman Maurice Potin and share the vigor of Forain's best drawings and lithographs" (Garvey).

EINBAND: Hellgrüner Halbmaroquinband mit breiten Lederecken, goldgeprägtem Rückentitel und Kopfgoldschnitt, auf dem Rücken braun-intarsiertes Blattwerk, Vorsätze aus silberbestäubtem grünen Kleisterpapier, Orig.-Broschur eingebunden. In Schuber. 31,5 : 21,5 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 134 Illustrationen von Jean Louis Forain, einer Extrasuite auf China, sowie zusätzlich mit 2 signierten Orig.-Zeichnungen des Künstlers. - ZUSTAND: Rücken verfärbt. Schuberkanten berieben.

De luxe edition with additional drawings, bound in a masterbinding by R. Kieffer. One of 50 numb. copies on Japon. With 134 illustrations by J. L. Forain and extra-suite, enriched with 2 orig. drawings by the artist. Light green morocco, spine with gilt title and brown leaf-shaped inlays, top edge gilt (signed R. Kieffer), orig. wrappers bound in; with half morocco slipcase. - Spine discolored, edges of slipcase rubbed.
