Segler und Rauch. 1910.
Etching.
Schiefler/Mosel/Urban 141. Signed. One of at least of 22 copies. On firm wove paper. 40,7 x 30,9 cm (16 x 12,1 in). Sheet: 62,5 x 47 cm (24,6 x 18,5 in).
Fine impression with full contrast with slight plate tone. With collector's stamp (?): "K.M.K. 44"( not in Lugt) on verso.

Emil Nolde created a small motif with energetic strokes of the brush and adds a great deal of atmospheric density through the differentiated etching, so that it eventually turns out a great subject. The water with the small boat is hinted at with just a few strokes. In all its liveliness it fills almost the sheet’s entire lower half. Etchings with motifs from the Hamburg harbor from around 1910count among the artist’s finest landscapes in this technique. [KD].
