Figuren im Staffelalp - Tobel. Um 1927.
Watercolors over Pen and India ink- and brush drawing.
Aus Presler Skb 146. On delicate creme paper. 16 x 25,8 cm (6,2 x 10,1 in), the full sheet.
Sheet from a sketchbook abandoned in 1968. According to Preseler, sketchbook 146 presumbaly was a British specimen due to the sheet's unusual size. It is likely that the artist received it as a present (cf. Presler p.15).

PROVENANCE: Kornfeld and Klippstein, Bern, auction 131, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner - Collection Lise Gujer, 15 June, 1968, cat. no. 19 (with illu.).
Private collection Sweden.

EXHIBITION: Marlborough Fine Art, London, June - July, 1969, cat. no. 99, p. 21.

In an easy duct Kirchner described a situation in the late twenties that ties in with his earlier years in Dresden. Nudes in a forest were also the theme of the excursions to the Moritzburg Lakes that Kirchner went on together with Heckel and Pechstein. As the drawing fills the entire sheet, it must have been a larger composition that Kirchner had in mind when he made this drawing. The striking strokes of the brush are like fixed-points in a composition aiming at surface effects. [KD].
