The painting "Olevano" was presumably made on a journey through Italy that Walter Strich-Chapel made with Alexander Kanoldt in 1923. They spent several months in Olevano, a picturesque town in the province of Rome, that inspired Strich-Chapel to this work. The medieval town is located on Monte Celeste, which is part of the Monti Prenestini mountain range. Strich-Chapell captures the entire palette of the southern landscape and combines the roofs‘ red-brown earthen tones, the vegetation‘s bluish green and the blue of the sky in this charming city view.
