Born in Dresden in 1977, Tobias Köbsch counts among the most promising contemporary artists, because of his critical-figurative works. He began his education in art at the renowned Art and Design School Burg Giebichenstein in Halle an der Saale under Thomas Rug and Ute Pleuger in 1999 and completed his studies in 2006. In his paintings, mostly acrylic or oil on canvas, Tobias Köbsch soon established a personal style commonly referred to as 'Visionary Realism', for its socio-critical component it stands in the tradition of 'Critical Realism'. His latest paintings increasingly show abandoned (urban) landscapes: prospects into a time beyond human civilization, into an epoch after the inevitable and self-inflicted end of mankind.
