One of the artist's rare works in lucent colors.

PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany.

As of the late 1970s Graubner executed his "Farbraumkörper" in increasingly larger formats, all the way to the huge murals he called "Begegnungen" (Encounters) that Graubner made for the building of the office of the German president in Berlin, Schloss Bellevue. Kept in purple and yellow, they still adorn the front ends of the large ballroom. While Graubner used fine nylon cloth for his early cushion pictures, he decided to employ firm canvas fabrics on his larger "Farbraumkörper" which he padded with quilting cotton. The application of the paint, which creates a cloudy color depth, is executed with various broom-like brushes onto the image carrier positioned on the floor. It requires several longer interruptions to let the individual layers dry, as well as a particular compositional sensitivity, in order to emphasize the depths of the individual color values, as well as to achieve the oscillating effect and the unique aesthetic presence, just as it is the case with our large-size work in lucent orange.
