Erich Heckel and his wife had spent a lot of time in Osterholz on the Flensburg Firth since 1913. In the year our lithograph was created, the Heckels bought a farmhouse directly above the cliffs, where they would live temporarily. Erich Heckel converted the attic into a studio and decorated it with murals. This portrait shows the artist, who was very gaunt and emaciated at the time as a result of the war; to his left is a view of a section of the typical wall decoration that he had designed himself. [EH]

In good condition. The right margin slightly irregular from the making. Isolated tiny brown spots. The sheet smooth and without handling creases.
