Frau am Spiegel. 1908.
Woodcut.
Signed and dated and titled in lower left. Monogrammed "H" in printing block. One of to date ca. 16 known copies. On firm Japon. 42.2 x 22.8 cm (16.6 x 8.9 in). Sheet: 70,5 x 56 cm (27,7 x 22 in).
Works from the first printing state still showed the full figure, while Heckel shortened the printing block for the second state. [AR].
• Early woodcut from the "Brücke" period.
• In a rare, narrow format, Heckel focuses entirely on his half-nude.
• A wonderful example of expressionist woodcut art and its incredibly direct expressiveness
