Signed and inscribedi "Gent 16 / Bildnis Dr. M. / Kaltnadel / Probe". Trial proof aside from the edition. On firm laid paper. 28.4 x 23.1 cm (11.1 x 9 in). Sheet: 44 x 37 cm (17,3 x 14,5 in).
The work is registered in the Hermann Gerlinger Collection as SHG 465a. [AR].

• The portrait depicts Heckel's long-time friend, the lawyer and writer Ernst Morwitz.
• They were stationed together in the medical unit in Ostend from 1915-1918.

In good condition. The sheet edges very slightly soiled as well as with isolated small foxed spots. A faint, horizontal crease in the center of the sheet.
